Sadly, we had to make the hardest decision in an animal lover/owner's life. On February 14, 2022, Remi was put to rest. She came to us in 2010 around the age of three - Remington, but she was called Remi. She also had several other nicknames - The Reminator, Klepto Dog, Remi Demi Ding Dong (which is what I would call her often), Missy and Lady. Remi was Greg's dove hunting dog, and she loved to hunt!

I told Greg that the death of Remi was going to be the hardest of any other animal we have had because she was so unusual. She loved people, got along with any dog and always welcomed dogs (and even outdoor cats) that came along after her.
I think I remember hearing her growl maybe once and it was
probably because one of the other dogs wanted to take her bone – she loved
bones! And she loved to play with the
tennis ball, although once she got it in her mouth, there was no taking it
away. She had jaws of steel!
She was also a thief! She would go down the road to former neighbors and steal all kinds of stuff and bring it home.

When we would be coming home from a dance at night, there were many times we would find Remi on the side of the road coming from the neighbors. The thief strikes again! Several dog bowls, buckets of horse supplement, and another pot. We didn't try to return any of these, we were too embarrassed!
Pictures of Remi throughout the years starting with 2011.

| I took this photo the day she left us |
She would sit with me on
the back porch with all the other dogs. Up until later in 2021 she
was able to sleep on the back porch but eventually, her arthritis prevented her
from climbing the steps.
Later in 2021 and 2022,
she spent most time out in the yard by the house (when it was nice) and in the
dog pen, she couldn’t wander too far, her arthritic legs just wouldn’t let
her.
Her appetite certainly
wasn’t affected, she loved her food.
The hardest thing to do
is to make that call and both of us put this off for as long as we
could. We knew it was time and I told Greg you are going to be the
one to have to call the vet as I won’t get through the call without
crying.
It was decided to
coordinate when the other three needed their rabies shot for the vet to make a
farm call. I didn’t care what it cost, I wanted him to come
here. We can’t let her suffer any longer, it isn’t fair to
her. It is not about us, but about her.
I truly believe she crossed the Rainbow Bridge in to doggie heaven and is at peace. I picture her running all around, chasing tennis balls, swimming in ponds and doing the things she loved to do when she was younger (maybe even trying to get a dove or two!).
We will miss her terribly, I already do.
So goodbye my fur-ever friend, Remington, Remi, Remi Demi Ding Dong, The Reminator, Klepto Dog, Missy and Lady.
