On July 19 we were headed to Colorado Springs to go to the Royal Gorge, but first decided to go BACK to Treasure Falls (since it was on the way out of town) to hike the correct trail to the falls. So glad we did. It wasn't a hard hike, of course when you are not used to the altitude there it is a bit more difficult.
Being a plant lover, I noticed some beautiful foliage, especially some wild roses along the hike!
Now on our way to Colorado Springs. We stopped in Salida for lunch at a place called 50 Burger. WOW! I think this was the best burger I have ever eaten! It came with hand cut fries and as I normally do with burgers (because I can't eat it all), I ate about half with the bread and the other without. Couldn't finish all the fries either.
It took a little over an hour to get to Royal Gorge. What an amazing place! There's quite a bit you can do. I think you used to be able to drive across the bridge but that isn't the case any longer. The walk was not that long. We viewed a film on the history of Royal Gorge and found out that in 2013 a fire destroyed most of the park area, but most of the bridge survived. Info here:
A couple things you can do is a swingout over the gorge (no way, Jose!) and zip line across. One young lady got stuck on the way over (probably not enough weight to get to the end) and had to be rescued. I videoed the rescue and it was cool.
After we left we headed to Westcliffe, where we were staying with a dear friend. She is fortunate enough to have a place there that she can go to in the summer, and then come back home to Bryan in the winter. The next day we would be heading to the National WWII Aircraft Museum and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
