Our New Mexico/Colorado Vacation July 2023 Part 1

I wanted to go somewhere for vacation and Greg suggested some place cooler like Colorado.  I am all in!  Our temps here in Texas have been 100+ for like forever and no end in sight or any rain predicted.

We decided on Pagosa Springs, Colorado as Greg had heard about great scenery.  Also wanted to go to Royal Gorge in Colorado Springs as the last time we were up there, we drove up to Pike's Peak but didn't see the Gorge.

On July 16 we left the house around 7:30 in the morning and about 10 minutes in to the trip, the low pressure light came on for one of the tires.  We made it to a town we were going to be going through (about another 10 minutes) and by the time we got there to a 7-11, the pressure read 11.  Greg aired up the tire, but it didn't want to hold.  So the decision was to drive back home (about 20 minutes) to see if the tire could be plugged.  By the time we got home, the pressure was at 3!!

After inspecting the tire, Greg found a gash so there was no way plugging was going to work for a 2000+ mile trip.  Plan B was put in to place, unload everything from our 2017 Nissan Murano and load in to our 2020 Jeep Gladiator.  Suitcases went in to the bed of the truck while everything else went in to the back seat.  An hour later we were on the road again!

The plan was to drive about 10 hours to Santa Rosa, New Mexico to stay just for the evening.  No site seeing scheduled but I did like this sign so stopped to take a photo the next morning.

Actually, we did stop at the "famous" Blue Hole in Santa Rosa where it is supposedly 80' deep!  Used for recreation but also for dive training.

On to Pagosa Springs!  On the way, we decided to stop in Chama, NM.  What a cute, small town.  We stopped and went to Foster's Bar, which is a neat place and we had a beer.  Mine was Santa Fe NMX Standard and Greg had a Nut Brown.  Very good beers!

Now, on our way to Colorado!  We missed the "Welcome to Colorado" sign so Greg turned around (just for me) and I got my photo!

About a 4.5 hour drive, we arrive at our lodging, which was a compound!  Club Wyndham featured apartment like lodging with a bedroom(s), living area, kitchen, and bathroom.  Also there was a pool, mini golf, and tennis courts within driving distance.

Restaurants were plentiful in downtown Pagosa Springs, but this is one of the busiest times of year so a couple we wanted to go to there was a 45 minute to an hour and a half wait.  We finally went to pizza place, which was good.  Getting a beer was different than I have even seen.  You were given a wrist band and you went to this set of taps and selected what beer you wanted and then put this wrist band up to a sensor to dispense.  You only paid by the amount you drank.

After that, we went back to our "apartment" to rest.  I am pooped!  Stay tuned for Part 2!
